What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a metal screw that is placed in the jawbone and is thus an anchorage device for a dental crown.

A dental implant is an excellent option for replacing missing teeth and restoring functionality to your mouth.

Why replace missing teeth?

Missing teeth can have several negative consequences:

Difficulty in chewing
Movement of adjacent teeth
Compromised aesthetics
Overeruption of opposing teeth
Emotional consequences

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

If you have lost one or more teeth, dental implants may be an appropriate treatment option for you. To receive dental implants, you need to be in good general and oral health, and have healthy gum tissues free from periodontal disease.

Dr Kotze will assess all these factors and discuss them with you.

Dental implant treatment

You will have an initial consultation to assess your needs and concerns. We will also discuss with you your various treatment options and risks. You will then receive a cost estimation for your treatment. If necessary, we may perform a CBCT scan to determine the bone volume and quality at the site where the implant will be placed. We generally do a thorough teeth cleaning before proceeding with Dental Implant placement.

Dental implant aftercare

Dental implants are almost the same as your natural teeth, so they require the same care. To keep your implant clean and plaque-free, you still need to brush and floss regularly.

After your implant is placed, we will schedule follow-up visits to monitor your implant, gums and teeth to make sure they are healthy.
